ROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – The Dominica police have charged three men with the murder of Irish born hotel manager, Joe Costello, who was killed here last month.
Eustace Benjamin, Don Prosper and Silas Bruno appeared before a Magistrate’s court on Wednesday to answer the indictable charge.
They were remanded at the Dominica State Prison pending the preliminary inquiry scheduled for November 9.
Costello, who managed the Silks Hotel for the past nine months, was killed on July 31 after masked gunmen shot him at the hotel at Marigot, north east of here. American hoteliers Rick and Alicia Davison were also injured during the attack.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit had said that the incident should not be used to paint the island and area a crime haven.
Public Relations Officer of the Dominica Police Force, Inspector Claude Weekes, said the break in the case should help ease the fears of foreigners resident in Dominica.
“ It is very important with this arrest is that it will assist in allaying the fears of the general public including visitors and other people who come to our shores. One crime indeed, especially heinous crimes, grotesque crimes, is indeed too many.
“We will continue our investigations, we will continue to be vigilant, we will continue with our tactical and operational activities around Dominica to ensure that our citizenry and our visitors and foreigners alike are safe in this country,” Weekes said.
