Over $4,000 worth of tools were stolen from Straffies Funeral Home’s workshop this week.

The executive director of the private entity, Elizabeth Saunders, said she has no idea how the thieves got into the building.

She told OBSERVER media yesterday that the workshop – located on Fort Road away from the funeral parlour itself – was locked and secured on Wednesday evening, and the next morning when the staff went to open it they observed that a number of tools were missing.

Saunders said there was no sign of forced entry into the building since none of the windows had been damaged. The businesswoman said the tools taken from the workshop were used to build caskets and coffins.

She expressed bewilderment that anyone would want to break in and steal such items from the premises.

According to her, the matter was reported to the police and an investigation was launched.
