Tennis stars off to great start in Regional tournament

Antigua and Barbuda’s young tennis stars made an impressive showing in the opening day of matches in the ongoing St. Lucia U-14 tournament.

Playing on Court 1 at the National Tennis Centre in Beausejour, Sibley Charles got the ball rolling for Antigua and Barbuda in the Girls singles category defeating Alysa Eliot of St. Lucia 6-1, 6-2.

Brasha Dyer followed suit on Court 2 thrashing Jorja Mederick of St. Lucia 6-0, 6-0.

Sydney Kentish was also victorious in her singles bout defeating Vincentian, Steadysha Peniston 6-0, 6-2.

Teammate Samaar Davis however fell in her match on Court 4 losing 6-3, 6-1 to the Dominican Republic’s, Rosario Elmudesi.

Justyn Rabeurn suffered his first defeat falling to Trinidadian Daniel Jeary 0-6, 4-6.

Matches will however continue tomorrow for both the girls and boys in both singles and doubles.

The U12 and U14 COTECC tournament will see players from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, French Guiana, French Honduras, Guatemala, Martinique, the Dominican Republic, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, USA and host, St. Lucia, battle it out for different event titles and COTECC ranking points.

The event is scheduled to culminate on Thursday.
