Captain of Champion Footwear Greenbay Hoppers FC George “Sowa” Dublin is not expecting a humdrum Sugar Ridge SAP when they take on the former champions in the second game of a triple-header in imobile Premier Division on Sunday.
Hoppers lead the competition by a solitaire point and will need a victory against unpredictable Bolans men if they are to stay in contention for a first ever Premier Division title.
According to Dublin, however, he knows it will not be a walk in the park.
“I can’t remember playing SAP in the last five to 10 years and it was a lackluster performance. We have had games with score lines of four goals plus and so forth, but it is a game that is going to be a well-contested game. The coach of SAP is from by us and he is one of these types of persons who like to have bragging rights, so you know he is going to come all out. So it’s supposed to be a very interesting game,” he said.
The national captain and defender believes also that results from Sunday’s match-up between SAP and Hoppers, and Old Road versus All Saints United, will set the tone going into the final week of the competition.
“Expectation is three points. I cannot expect anything less and anything else would not do me any good, so I need to get three points and that’s the only thing I am expecting,” Dublin said.
“This weekend could definitely make or break the championship of course and it all depends on the results of the 5 pm Sunday game and the 7 pm Sunday game. Those games are going to decide if the next weekend will be relevant or not and this is why Antiguans pay their money to come and watch football; these kind of games where there is climax and you can see who are quality footballers and who are not, who are quality coaches and who are not.”
Hoppers, on 42 points after 16 matches, will take on third placed SAP with 36 points in a fixture scheduled to kick-off at 5 pm.
Defending champions LIME Old Road will seek to stay in the championship race when they take on Special Security Services All Saints United in the night’s feature contest starting at 7 pm, while Asot’s Arcade Parham will tackle La Bussola Willikies in the opening match starting at 3 pm.
On Saturday, Paradise Boat Sales Fort Road will take on Sea View Farm at 4:15 pm, while Education for Advancement Bassa will face Plumbing & Electrical Celtics at 6:15 pm. (By Neto Baptiste)
