CALIFORNIA, United States – Trinidad-born rapper Nicki Minaj said she won’t be taking her show on the road anytime soon, as much as she’d like to. The Super Bass singer is simply too busy to tour.
That’s what happens when someone has transitioned from an “artist” to a “brand,” as Mack Maine said of Minaj during an appearance on “RapFix Live.”
It’s not hard to gauge that the 30-year-old superstar is virtually in perpetual motion, juggling her music career, clothing brand and perfume line with her duties as a judge on American Idol.
Add her burning drive to focus on making new music and the need to promote the new products she’s launching, and it’s understandable that the Pink Friday girl will be taking care of business for quite some time before returning to the stage.
“I don’t think I can. I really would love to,” Minaj told MTV News when asked about a tour. “But I don’t think I’ll have the time, because I’m also going to be launching a few products this year and I’m really going to have to lend myself to the clothing line. I have a drink that’s about to come out and these new speakers that you guys are going to see a commercial for this week or next week.
“So I have a lot of things that the business side of me has to work on, and I also want to be here so I can write. I obviously am going to start working on the third album very, very soon. I’m getting beats as we speak. I just haven’t started writing, but that’s my biggest priority at this point.”
The hip-hop hitmaker also revealed that she may drop the “Pink Friday image that has dominated her two previous albums.
“Even though I am the same now, my experiences have changed me in good ways, to be honest,” she explained. “Like, I’m in a place now of being super grateful and appreciative for everything, and I want that to show in everything that I do. So the ‘Pink Friday,’ it’s like a great chapter and I love it – it represents new things. But I really want to start to a new era.”
In the meantime, the Young Money MC revealed that High School, her new single featuring Lil Wayne, may not be the last track to be released from Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up, leaving her many fans with something to look forward to. (Caribbean360.com)
