No bail for accused child rapist

The court has denied bail in yet another child rape case in which a man allegedly forced himself on a 13-year-old girl.
The accused is a 51-year-old trucker, and he had no legal representative when he appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel in the All Saints Magistrate’s Court charged with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 14 years of age.
This is a crime that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Given the seriousness of the allegation, the court said it was denying bail while ordering counselling for the complainant.
It’s alleged that the man raped the child between September 1 and 30, 2018 at a house in Tyrells.
The committal hearing for the case is set for February 6, next year.
