Terrance “Toby” Weatherhead was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared in the St John’s Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of his partner, Michelle Monique Rudder-DaCosta.
The 28-year-old New Street man was taken before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh who set his committal date for November 9.
The committal is the process whereby the magistrate reviews the investigators’ case file, presented by the police prosecution, to determine whether there is enough evidence to show that a prima facie (at first glance) case exists.
OBSERVER media was told the accused was unrepresented by counsel at the time of his first court appearance.
Since his case is indictable, it can only be tried in the High Court. As a result, no plea was taken yesterday.
It is alleged the young man killed his 45-year-old partner and mother of his child, Rudder-DaCosta during a domestic dispute at their New Street home. The woman also had a 15-year-old son.
The incident allegedly occurred some time after 8 pm. Police earlier said an autopsy was conducted but they did not reveal what caused the woman’s death.
