Hoppers back on top, United fall to Swetes

Former Antigua Premier League (APL) champions, Cool and Smooth Global Bank of Commerce AC Delco Greenbay Hoppers moved back to the top of the 10-team standings after their latest win.

The Grays Green team trounced newly promoted Medical Specialists Ottos Rangers 5-0 in the feature encounter of the double header evening at the Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG) on Saturday.

Yoandir Puga Estevez recorded a brace for the victors, scoring in the 37th and 67th minutes of play.

Teammate, Rodney Lawrence was a goal shy of a hattrick, finding the back of the net in minutes 63 and 80.

The final goal came as an own goal scored by Terry Roberts in the 91st minute.

Hoppers edge out rivals Sandals INET Grenades for the top spot by a better goal difference of plus 10 to Grenades’ plus eight.

Rangers, on the other hand, slipped to third with 22 points.

NNL Distributors Swetes FC were also victorious that night, edging out All Saints United 1-0 with a goal in the 13th minute by Akeem Weekes.

Swetes are now 4th with 21 points, while United remain in the dreaded relegation zone with 13 points.

Also, that day, a First Division encounter between Empire FC and Point WestHam ended with Empire gaining a full three points with a 4-2 victory.

Jayvaughn Joseph (8th) and Rakeem Joseph (33rd, 44th, 75th) were the goal scorers for Empire, while an own goal by Ratijah Davis (71st) and a strike in the 80th minute by Junito Jeffrey found the back of the net for Point.

Empire are now second with 36 points, while WestHam remain at the bottom of the table with two points.
