Green City grows in confidence while Earthquakes rattle former top flight champions

Green City FC significantly increased their chances of promotion from Zone B of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association’s Second Division on Monday, following a 4-1 trouncing of Young Warriors in John Hughes.

Mahijah Lee, Sylvester Fenton, Jahson Jerome and Chesniel Paul each scored once in the comfortable victory as Green City leaped to 26 points and leveled at the top with Young Lions also on 26 points. Lions however has a slightly better goal difference of positive 21 to that of City’s positive 18.

Malique Edwards scored the lone goal for Warriors when he slotted home from the penalty spot. They remain in the cellar position with just one point from their 13 matches.

Meanwhile, Earthquakes recorded only their fifth victory in 13 matches with a 2-0 triumph over former Premier Division champions Bassa. Deon Lavonn and Arnold James each scored once in the victory as Earthquakes moves to 20 points and fifth in the standings.

There was victory as well for Blackburn Palace who beat Belmont 3-1 also in Zone B. Jahmarly Barzey, Malik Lashely and Orel Edwards each hit the back of the net once for Palace as they climb to nine points but remain second from bottom in the 10-team standings. In the other match played Monday, Jennings United defeated Bethesda 3-1.
