Fudadin, Paul give Jaguars upperhand

GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Apr 15, CMC – Assad Fudadin hit an unbeaten hundred and Youth World Cup star Keemo Paul grabbed a career-best six-wicket haul, as Guyana Jaguars took a massive stride towards a hat-trick of Regional four-day titles by dominating the opening day of their final round clash with Windward Islands Volcanoes here Saturday.
Paul, 19, in only his second first class game, grabbed six for 28 with his right-arm seam as Volcanoes, opting to bat first, crumbled for a disappointing 95 all out at the Guyana National Stadium.
Captain Sunil Ambris top-scored with 29 and tail-ender Shane Shillingford got 24 but the innings never recovered from strife at 29 for six in the morning’s 10^th over.
Ambris, one of the tournament’s leading scorers, faced 42 balls and struck six fours as he posted 42 fo rthe seventh wicket with Shillingford.
Jaguars were then propelled by Fudadin’s sixth first class hundred as they reached 210 for two at the close – already a lead of 115 runs.
Chanderpaul Hemraj, in his first game of the season, struck 54 while out-of-favour Test opener Rajindra Chandrika chipped in with 35.
The 31-year-old Fudadin, in only his second first class game of the season, faced 172 deliveries in a shade over 3-3/4 hours at the crease and gathered 12 fours and two sixes.
He put on 108 with Chandrika for the opening stand before adding a further 92 for the second wicket with the 23-year-old Hemraj who counted five fours and two sixes in a 102-ball knock.
