Antigua and Barbuda’s first Student Director on the Board of Education, Ashleigh Knight continues to blaze a trail and has done her family and country proud as she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Howard University in Washington, DC last week, with a Bachelor’s degree in International Business with a concentration in Information Systems.

The only daughter of Janice and Orville Knight, Ashleigh attended the Baptist Academy of Antigua from 1998-2013 and placed 5th in the National Common Entrance Examinations in 2008. She placed 8th in the Caribbean for CXC Accounts and 3rd in the Lime CXC Awards, earning 14 grade ones and one grade 2.

She attended the Antigua State College from 2013-2015 and placed 3rd in the Caribbean, for the CAPE Law Examination in 2015.

As Ashleigh reflects on her path to academic excellence, she credits her family and faith for her many accomplishments. While attending Howard University, she had the opportunity to travel abroad to broaden her horizons, visiting London, Colombia, Spain, Greece, Rome and Paris.

According to her, “The last four years have been extremely challenging yet rewarding and I have come to realise that a good education will take you to places beyond your greatest imagination.“

The young graduate has already landed her dream job at New York Life Insurance as an IT Project Manager. She hopes to pursue a Master’s degree after gaining a few years of valuable work experience.

Her long term goal is to return to Antigua and Barbuda to make a meaningful contribution to the country and people who have given her so much.
