The Empire cricket team rallied to a third straight victory in the Cool & Smooth T20 Cricket Explosion on Saturday at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground, beating Caribbean Union Bank (CUB) Bethesda by just three runs in the second game of a double-header.
Batting first, Empire posted a not so intimidating 133 for nine in their 20 overs with Owen Graham and Tyrone Williams each hitting 31 runs. Anthony Martin was the pick of the bowlers for Bethesda, claiming three wickets for 10 runs in four overs.
In reply, Bethesda could only get to 130 for six in their 20 overs despite a top score of 52 from Leeward Islands and national cricketer Gavin Tonge.
Curl Simon and Justin Athanaze each bagged two wickets as they were able to contain the Bethesda batting line-up.
Meanwhile, in Saturday’s other contest, Bolans defeated Jennings by 20 runs to claim their first victory in the competition.
Winning the toss and batting first, Bolans posted 144 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Orlando Peters top scored with 57 runs while Gavin Williams made 37.
Julio Charles, Paul Miller and Brandon Harris all had two wickets bowling for Jennings.
When their turn at the crease arrived, Jennings fell short of their target, reaching 124 for 9 before their 20 overs elapsed.
Peters returned with the ball to claim three wickets for 13 runs in four overs while Taheim Tonge and Shemar Wallace each snatched two wickets.
