Defending Under-12 girl’s champions got off to a great start in the 2018 Sub-region 4 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Central American and Caribbean Tennis Confederation (COTECC) Under-12 Championships clean-sweeping St. Lucia 3-0.
Number 2 seeded, Ariel Kelsick got the ball rolling for the champions winning her singles bout, 6-3, 6-1.
Brasha Dyer followed suit as the number one seeded athlete trounced St. Lucia, 6-0, 6-1.
Both ladies then teamed up to make it three in a row for Team Wadadli winning, 6-3, 6-3.
The championships follow the same format of the Davis and Fed Cup where each country in the pool plays two singles and a doubles match.
The females will look to continue their winning ways as they face Guyana later this week.
The boys team however could not follow the girl’s lead as they fell to host team, Trinidad and Tobago, 0-3.
Both Xaveek Toppin and Jaydon Marcano suffered disappointing defeats in their singles matches as Toppin went under, 0-6, 1-6 and Marcano, 0-6, 2-6.
The bad luck continued into their doubles match as they fell, 0-6, 2-6 to Trinidad and Tobago.
Antigua and Barbuda will battle Curacao, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, St. Lucia and Grenada in the July 15 – 22 tournament.
