ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The 2012 Barbuda Caribana festivities wrapped-up on a very positive note last evening with a last lap jam session and organisers are now getting set to begin planning for 2013.
Caribana City came alive last Thursday with the grand opening ceremony which was followed by the first ever Little and Junior Miss Barbuda pageant.
The pageant was introduced to replace the traditional Caribana Queen Show. The winners for this event were Little Miss Lasheka Webber and Junior Miss Shazne Beazer.
Another highlight of the weekend was the much anticipated Miss Big, Bold and Beautiful competition.
This show, also new on the calendar, gave the PHAT (Pretty, Hot And Thick) ladies a chance to strut their stuff.
At the end of the night, Cynthia Yearwood won the hearts of the judges to take the crown. First and second runners up were Hildina Gore and Shorna Collins respectively.
The heavy hitters came out to play in Sunday’s Calypso monarch show, sponsored by Kennedy’s Club.
Defending champion Janice “Stabba” Welch retained her crown against Lady Stinga, Lady Raw, Tumba-De Xman Bill, and DJ Flush.
Welch won her seventh monarch title with her 2012 songs Don’t Stop this Jamand Since Independence.
