Bolans opened their 2018/19 domestic football season on a confident note, inflicting a 6-1 trouncing on Bendals when they clashed in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association’s (ABFA) President’s Cup on Monday.
Playing away from home, Owen Joseph and Andrew Martin both recorded hattricks for Bolans, each hitting the back of the net on three separate occasions. Bendals, who are now eliminated from the knockout competition, had their lone strike coming from Mitcheo Edwards.
In another exciting contest, JSC Progressors defeated Tamo FC on sudden-death penalties after their fixture ended 2-2 in regulation time.
Walter Bellot and Kevorn Martin each scored a goal for Progressors while Tamo Allen and Jaheel Jno-Baptiste both scored for Tamo FC.
The two teams were again, equal to the task from the penalty spot as they both scored all five of their kicks, but Progressors clinched the winner in sudden-death shootout.
If the teams are still tied after the initial allocated number in the penalty shoot-out, the game goes to sudden-death penalties, where each team takes a further one penalty each, repeated until only one team scores, resulting in the winning of the game.
Also on Monday, Young Warriors defeated former Premier Division champions, English Harbour 2-1 in English Harbour. Dandre Harris and Ruben Rube each scored once for the victors while Lemuel Richards scored the only goal for English Harbour.
The competition is slated to continue throughout the week at venues across the island.
