St John’s, Antigua – The Labour Department is taking further steps to speed up resolution of disputes between workers and employers.
It has committed to hiring more officers to hear cases.
It’s a move that Trade Union Congress President Kim Burdon welcomes:
The department has been plagued by backlog for some time.
Even cases that have already gone through the conciliation process are held up because the department takes inordinately long periods to deliver an opinion.
Burdon says, however that the backlog isn’t the only issue that has worried labour unions.
