The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) will not be contesting for the seat in the Barbuda by-election.

This is according to Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) constituency branch of Barbuda Ricardo Nedd and the Chairman of the ABLP in Antigua, Chet Greene.

Nedd told our newsroom that the ABLP does not wish to participate in a contest that will not shift the balance of power in Barbuda.

He added that this is a calculated decision by the party saying that this is not the first time the ABLP has made such a strategic decision.

Adding that the last time was during the by-elections in All Saints East and St Luke in which Chester Hughes emerged as the Representative.

The Barbuda Local Government By-Election is scheduled for Monday,

December 30th to fill the seat left vacant by late Council member, Freeston Thomas.

Nomination day is scheduled for tomorrow (Monday) at the Sir McChesney George Secondary School between the hours of 10:00 AM and 1:00 pm.

On Friday, Devon Warner emerged winner of the Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM) primary and as such Warner will be officially nominated by a proposer, seconder and three other persons who are registered to vote tomorrow.

Should no other individual be nominated from any other party, Warner will automatically fill the vacant seat.
