16 July, 2012, ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The results of the weekend’s calypso quarter-finals are indicating that a showdown between reigning monarch Keithroy “De Bear” Morson and Trevor “King Zachari” King is in the making.

Zachari is leading the pack of 18 who are hoping to unseat De Bear.

Here’s Carnival Development Committee member responsible for judges, Maurice Merchant, with the just released rankings.

The rivalry between De Bear and Zachari took on another dimension last week with each man essentially accusing the other of being a hack.

De Bear is accusing Zachari of producing tired songs and his rival is countering that De Bear forces other calypsonians to release their songs late to keep him from stealing them.

Meanwhile … Merchant says the points on which the current rankings are based shows that the competition will be hotly contested.

The system requires artistes to strive for the lowest possible number of points, which would be five, and it was possible to score as many as 300 points. Zachari, who’s top of the pile, scored 11.

Merchant says Young Destroyer’s second place ranking is relatively close to that.
