Winter’s camp defies Jacob’s apology demand

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Party Monarch Tian Winter’s camp said it will not be making any apology as demanded by calypsonian Leston “Young Destroyer” Jacobs.

Jacobs’ management yesterday gave Winter and his management team until 3 pm to issue the apology for what it said have been false and misleading statements made about a violent confrontation between the two men last weekend during the Party Monarch finals.

The two entertainers have been accusing each other of starting the fight, which led to both men being detained but subsequently released by police without either one being charged.

The statement on behalf of Young Destroyer claims that “the release issued by Winter’s management is even more shocking as immediately after the attack and in the subsequent days, Winter’s management repeatedly contacted Jacobs indicating that they wanted to settle the matter and urging him not to go back to the police.”

Young Destroyer’s side further claims that the Winter management team “also offered to issue a public apology to Jacobs”, and that a meeting intended to hammer out a settlement was held between the two parties on Tuesday, August 7.

Describing the recalled meeting as “unfruitful”, the Jacobs press release claims the interaction was attended by Tian Winter himself, along with two relatives and his manager, Neil Cochrane.

According to the statement from Jacobs’ management, if the Winter side did not retract its allegedly false statement and apologise to Jacobs by 3pm yesterday, Jacobs would take all legal steps available to him against Winter, his management and all who have issued false statements about the incident.

But when contacted at the deadline hour, a key member of the Winter camp, who did not want to be named, said it was the first time he was hearing of the demand from Young Destroyer.

He was however adamant that no such apology would be forthcoming.

“He can go ahead and take us to court because we don’t know what apology he’s waiting to hear. Since when do people apologise for being right?”
