Are environmentalists over-exaggerating when they plea with the public, governments or decision makers about matters pertaining to the environment or the conservation of natural resources? Is it being melodramatic? For those of us that respect, appreciate and know the value of the earth?s natural resources it is extremely difficult for us to stand aside and watch the continuous rape, over-exploitation, pollution and the many forms of destruction and degradation.
In the bible we learnt that ?God?, creator of the heaven and earth gave man dominion over His creation, this encompasses the birds of the air, fishes in the sea and animals of the fields but repeatedly generation after generation mans? responses have been to take, to kill and to destroy. Many have shaken the responsibility of the preservation or protection of our planet ?EARTH? and its God-given assets. Most seem to have forgotten or is it that they just don?t care?
In the name of development and progress man have destroyed hectares of forests, causing massive erosion and degrade acres upon acres of prime land turning these areas into futile barren land, while destroying natural terrestrial habitats. Then there are instances when some violators can?t get enough and demonstrate this by backfilling ecosystems such as mangrove swamps. This selfish and nonsensical action has rid these areas from the natural protection provided by the swamp from both tidal surge and land based emissions of pesticide, pollution and chemical fertilizers from reaching coral reefs not forgetting to mention the destruction of the natural habitat of marine life.
