ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Local Human Rights Group, War Against Women – WAR – wants a song which it says promotes violence against females and is extremely offensive, banned.
The song in question “Kick een she back door” is rendered by Toriano “Onyan” Edwards of Burning Flames-fame.
President of WAR, Alexandrina Wong has taken her fight for the banning of the song to Minister responsible for Gender Affairs, Dr. Jacqui Quinn-Leandro as well as Information Minister, Dr Edmond Mansoor.
Wong said all steps must be taken to ensure all local media houses and agencies connected with the media and carnival, immediately stop playing the song in public.

Wong told OBSERVER Media the authorities need to implement a system that would ensure songs are reviewed and ultimately pulled from the airwaves and public broadcasting when the contents are considered offensive or encourage criminal behaviour.
She is not concerned that artistes might not like such censorship.

Meantime, Onyan said he is standing by his song.

Oh come on people, onyan is famaous for singing smut but at least they can be logically be explained, like ‘for Caryo’ we all knows what he is implying. This song in question should be banned however, because anyhow you try to explain it, it is distasteful to say the least, he is either implying violence or an act that is derogatory.
Bann the blasted song and that is final grow up onyan and continue to make more sngs like ‘ah ya me born’ and the likes.

Banning a song makes it more popular, history teaches you that. And this particular song is no less offensive than many, many others, perhaps you can understand these lyrics, with dancehall you likely miss most of it. Have you heard the calypso’s of the 70′s & 80′s = much worse, but as kids we sang them and when we grew older eventually we realized what they meant. Lastly, since my wife, a highly educated and strong independent Caribbean women heard this song she a beg mi fu ‘Kick in she back doh’……. most nights, lol. Thankyou Onyan. What next? ask the ladies to wear a hijab and cover their bodies at carnival, please….free world, free speech, tolerance and cultural understanding please
