FLORIDA, CMC – United States authorities were searching for the Haitian-born man after the bodies of six of his family members were found in an apartment here.
Police said they want to talk to Mesac Damas, 33, who they described as a ?person of interest? following the discovery of the bodies of his wife and five children, whose ages range from 11 months to nine years.
Authorities said Damas boarded a flight to Haiti on Friday from Miami International Airport.
Collier County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten declined to state how the six persons were killed, but disclosed that family members had contacted police on Thursday after they did not hear from the family over a 24-hour period.
Batten said after a missing person report was filed on Friday, the officers entered the home in a gated community in Naples, Florida, and found the bodies.
Sheriff Kevin Rambosk described the homicides as ?the worst of the worst?.
Rambosk said Damas left a restaurant in Naples, where he worked as a cook, Thursday night and boarded a flight Friday morning to Haiti.
?We also believe that shortly before 10 a.m. on Friday, Mr Damas left on a flight to Haiti, where we believe he is at this time,? he said.
Rambosk said Damas?s car was found at the airport and has been secured for evidence.
Damas?s father, Jean Damas Sr., said his son and his wife had domestic problems, and that his son had called his brother from Haiti.
Authorities said ?the couple has a history of violence that has been in the court system?.
Rambosk said police had gone twice in the past year to the Damas?s residence to respond to ?domestic violence? complaints, the last time being in January.
