St. John’s Antigua- Kenneth A Gomes United and Harold Lovell Rockersville took 1-0 leads at Ottos on Thursday in their respective first round series of the Stag, Inet, Cool & Smooth Antigua & Barbuda Basketball Association’s (ABBA) Second Division playoffs competition.
Danstan Telemaque scored 12 points to lead United to their surprising 63-40 victory over Ottos Officials who played the game without their top scorer due to a one-game suspension.
Justin Francis led Ottos with 15 points. Ottos will seek to level the best of three series in game two at the same venue on Saturday at 8:15 pm.
Alfred Lee shot a game-high 25 points to inspire Rockersville to their narrow 66-62 victory over Spanish Heat.
Edgar Obispo sank 20 points for Spanish Heat. Game two of that series will also be contested today at Ottos at 6:45 pm.
Meanwhile, JSC Outlaws are through to the semi-finals of the First Division playoff series.
Outlaws booked their spot in the last four by surging to an emphatic 75-57 victory over Roots at JSC Sports Complex on Thursday night to win the best of three first round series 2-1.
Felix Hamilton sank 31 points and Russell Daley produced 18 points, nine boards and eight steals for Outlaws.
Noel Ryan scored 14 points and Terry Roberts had 17 rebounds, 10 points, and five steals for Roots.
Outlaws will face Big Banana Express at 6:45 at JSC on Sunday in the opening game of their best of three semi-finals series.
Express beat Baba’s Trucking JSC Hawks 2-0 in their best of three first round series.
The other two First Division playoff series winners will be decided at JSC today.
Baldwin Braves will face Hankook Flyers with the series tied 1-1 and Yorks Crushers will clash with Newfield Tapers in a series that is also levelled at 1-1.
The two winners will meet in the other best of three First Division semi-finals series with the opening game set for Sunday at JSC at 8:15 pm.
