St. John’s Antigua- Antigua & Barbuda Football Association’s (ABFA) Under-17 Boys Development League is set to commence at two venues today.
Co-ordinator Micah Samuel said the teams, divided into two zones, will be playing their opening round of matches at Dredgebay in Point and Radio Range in Ottos.
In Zone One at Dredgebay starting at 10 am, Jennings Grenades will meet Paynters; Villa will face Fort Road; Willikies will tackle Future Kings; Swetes will take on Soccer Academy, and Clare Hall will clash with hosts West Ham.
In Zone Two at Radio Range beginning at 3 pm, Old Road will oppose SAP; Urlings will challenge Empire; Ovals United will take on Young Warriors, and Parham will clash with hosts Rangers.
All matches will last for the duration of 60 minutes.
Samuel said provision has been made to include Hoppers in the schedule, but the team from Greenbay is yet to confirm its participation in this year’s Under-17 league with the ABFA.
“I haven’t seen a registration as it relates to Hoppers, neither have I gotten any sort of word from the Hoppers management as it relates to participation in this league,” Samuel said.
“I am hoping that sometime before Saturday we will get a word from the president of Hoppers who is also an ABFA executive member as it relates to Hoppers’ participation.
He added: “If Hoppers demonstrate the interest to participate in this league we have created a provision whereby Hoppers will be included on the schedule. But for now we haven’t heard anything from the Hoppers people.”
Samuel said the Under-15 Boys Development League would commence three weeks after the conclusion of the Under-17 league, which is expected to take place during a three-month period.
Empire won the last ABFA’s Under-17 boys development league.
