ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Regional airline LIAT said Sunday it had suspended all of its scheduled early morning flights departing the V.C. Bird International Airport as Tropical Storm Irene impacts Antigua and the Leeward Islands.
Corporate Communications Manager Desmond Brown said that LIAT’s morning services into Antigua are also likely to be affected.
At 5:00am Irene was located 95 kilometres southeast of Antigua.
The National Hurricane Centre in Miami said that tropical storm conditions are expected in the Leeward Islands later today while Tropical storm conditions are expected to begin this afternoon in the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
It said that hurricane conditions are possible over Puerto Rico tonight and are expected over the Dominican Republic by late Monday.
