Thursday League scaled down to four teams

ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Antigua Commercial Bank, Parish League, Sir Vivian Richards American Airlines Thursday League Cricket Competition has been scaled down to only four teams this year.

Co-ordinator of Parish League Cricket Taddy Arrindell told OBSERVER Sports that based on the teams that registered, the competition will go ahead starting on Thursday.

The four squads are defending champions Harney Motors Mahico, Bolans, Pigotts and Diamonds International Police.

OBSERVER Sports has been reliably informed that for the first time since the inception of the tournament less than half a dozen teams will be contesting.

The four teams will play two rounds of matches after which the two top teams will contest the finals.

In the meantime, only one match was contested in the ACB, Parish League, Curtly Ambrose Competition over the weekend.

Swetes were hosted by Pigotts on Sunday; however the visitors lost by 49 runs.

Batting first, Pigotts made 167 all out in 28.2 overs. Rahkeem “Jimbo” Cornwall hit 39 and Kadeem Phillip 33.

Bowling for Swetes, E Francis had five for 27.

In reply, Swetes were bowled out on the final ball of their allotted 30 overs for 118 runs.

J Ambris hit 44, and Hardy James added 11.

Bowling for Pigotts, Cornwall claimed five wickets for 30, while Stephan Matthew and Dwayne Dindial each took two for 13 runs.

All other scheduled matches on the weekend were rained out.
