ST JOHN’S, Antigua – A record 159 extras were conceded in the United Insurance, Ministry of Sports Under-15 Cricket Competition match between Island Academy and Pares Secondary at Pigotts on Tuesday.
Pares gave away 84 extras – including 66 wides, 11 no ball, five byes and two leg byes – in Island Academy’s total of 158 for five.
Thomas hit 25 not out and Leon Swann made 20. Jahmoya Gilkes took one for 13 and Shackor Floyd picked up one for 17.
Like Islands Academy’s innings, extras accounted for more than half the runs Pares made when they batted.
There were 75 extras in Pares innings of 131 for six. The extras comprised 49 wides, 19 no balls, five byes and two leg byes.
Floyd hit 30 and Adio Gordon made 12. Kai Ross picked up three for 11 and Korie Joseph claimed two for 19 as Island Academy won the match by 27 runs.
But there was no play at Rising Sun cricket ground in Tuesday’s other scheduled Under-15 match between Clare Hall and Jennings secondary schools.
Clare Hall were, however, awarded full points by virtue of winning the match by default after Jennings were unable to assemble the required number of players to start the encounter. Jennings had only seven players.
Meanwhile, Combined Schools recorded an eight-wicket victory over hosts American University of Antigua (AUA) in the College League earlier this week.
American University of Antigua were restricted to 137 for six off 18 overs and Combined Schools achieved their victory target of 138 for the loss of two wickets in 11.1 overs.

Well done mr. Extra. This is good training for the West Indies team. Lots of wickets with “No Balls”.
