ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, July 30, CMC – A 23-year-old primary school teacher was remanded into custody on Monday after he made a brief appearance in court here charged with the murder of a 19-year-old woman whose dismembered body was found by garbage collectors on a street overlooking the capital last week.
John Redhead has been charged with murdering Akera Lalgie. An autopsy revealed she died as a result of hypovolemic shock and that she had been strangled. Her headless corpse had been found in a dumpster.
Readhead will re-appear at the St. George’s Magistrate Court on August 20.
Meanwhile, two prison officers were released on EC$10,000 (One EC Dollar=US$0.37cents) bail each after they appeared in court on charges of possession and distribution of illegal drugs.
Shaundell Frederick and Samuel Frederick were arrested during an operation at the lone Richmond Hill Prison by the Drug Squad over the weekend. The authorities said they found two and a half pounds of cannabis from a bag of one of the prison officers. They will re-appear in court on September 6.
Two British nationals, Nadine Jones, 31 and 35-year-old Simeon Archibald were remanded into custody Monday after they were charged for possession and trafficking of a controlled drug.
Police said the two British nationals were arrested last week at the Maurice Bishop International Airport and 1.3 kilos of cocaine had been found in their luggage prior to boarding a flight to London.
