Two international airlines have committed scheduled flights to Antigua, increasing total airlift to the country, Tourism Minister John Maginley reported.

The Antigua Hotel & Tourist Association (AHTA) has decried the impact of an increase in Britian’s Air Passenger Duty (APD) that took effect on Sunday, saying the tax is another harsh blow to the already challenged sector.

British Airways (BA) has singled out the UK’s sky-high Air Passenger Duty (APD) tax as the main reason why it has decided to cut the amount of flights it makes to the Caribbean in 2012.

Airlines flying into the VC Bird International Airport are counting their losses after Chevron fuel attendants staged a two-day sickout here for the second time in weeks, forcing aircraft to refuel elsewhere.
