The Ministry of Education will hire new teachers this school year, some of whom will be untrained, potentially making its goal of having all teachers trained by 2013 harder to reach.

The Antigua Labour Party has threatened to take to Caricom the government‘s decision to refuse the University College of the Caribbean (UCC) permission to set up a local campus.

The shortage of teachers will be exacerbated in the upcoming academic year since many of them will be attending the Teacher Training Department at Antigua State College as the Ministry of Education attempts to fulfil its goal of having every teacher trained by 2013.
