ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Head of the Public Sector Transformation Unit Konata Lee said they are yet to determine whether there would be any casualties as they continue to implement a plan to modernise the public sector.

The Antigua and Barbuda Workers Union (ABWU) is galvanizing for a showdown with FirstCaribbean Bank if it extends redundancy plans to workers at the local branch.

After months of negotiations between Port management and bargaining agents for the workers, January 7 is the deadline given for employees to indicate whether they will opt for voluntary enhanced severance, or early retirement.

Indications at the time of going to press were that disgruntled employees of the Free Trade and Processing Zone will return to work today after two straight days of strike action.
