Regional carrier LIAT’s maintenance bill is said to have topped US $2 million in the last six months alone – as it continues to bleed from damage suffered in the June 10 blaze.

LIAT officials said they have shared their new business plan with unions representing workers and have not received any negative feedback thus far.

Over three dozen “uneconomic” flights provided by regional carrier LIAT will be chopped next year – affecting more than a dozen Caribbean countries.

Almost two months to the day of the June 10 blaze that authorities said cost LIAT some $60 million, Fire Chief Sylvester Jackson has confirmed the cause of the inferno was linked to a golf cart left charging in the facility.

As of today, Captain Ian Brunton will take the helm of regional carrier – LIAT- a month after the official resignation of his predecessor Brian Challenger.

LIAT chairman Dr Ralph Gonsalves has disclosed that the under-insurance of “non aviation components” caused the airline to incur an additional EC $10 million in damage – bringing the price tag for June’s hangar blaze to a staggering EC $60 million.
