Two local clergymen have condemned the growing trend of sexually explicit and violent lyrics, with both blaming it squarely on the erosion of society’s moral standards.

Several social activist groups are formulating a draft policy aimed at purging the airwaves of violent and lewd lyrics. The document is expected to also address violence against women and the family.

Plagued by controversy for its lyrical content, multi-title Road March winners Burning Flames copped top honours last night as the Carnival curtains came down with their “Kick Een She Back Doh” song.

A controversial Carnival song – which campaigners claims advocates rape and violence against women – won’t be banned by the Carnival Development Committee (CDC).

Women Against Rape (WAR) has taken issue with veteran soca band Onyan and the Burning Flames over this year’s tune entitled Kick Een She Back Doh. The local women’s advocacy group called for the catchy Carnival melody to be banned from the airwaves.
