I was fortunate or unfortunate enough to be on American Road yesterday to witness the accident that took place with the fire truck and two vehicles coming up All Saints Road.
I can only say that these vehicles were either on their cell phones or their music was just too loud for them to realise that a big red truck with lights and sound blaring was coming across American Road. The impact of the vehicles pushed the fire truck into the ditch, nose in.
You can see by the photo that the truck was hit hard and thrown off its course across American Road. The red vehicle was coming from town, going up All Saints Road.
I feel the police need to confiscate the cell phones of the vehicles involved in the accident. I can tell you by the way that truck was hit, those drivers were not paying attention. Something distracted them – either texting, talking on the phone or music too loud.
Something needs to be done with the irresponsible driving here in Antigua. This country is too small in population to have so many road accidents.
We need to be defensive drivers and respect all drivers on the road and pedestrians as well. There are more motorcycles on the road these days, because it is more cost effective to own a motorcycle. We have to respect them as well.
This government needs to implement stiffer fines and jail time for hitting emergency vehicles, texting and driving, and talking on the cell phone while driving.
Pull over if you feel you need to chat so much. I am sick of seeing all the accidents on the roads of Antigua. You all are just too small for this kind of nonsense.
Implement stiffer fines and laws to deal with racing, and reckless irresponsible driving. Enough is enough.

I would like to comment on the aforementioned incident on American @All Saints Road. I’m saddened to hear and read that reckless driving continues to be a major problem in Antigua. Today marks the 10th anniversary of my fathers untimely death at the opposite end of American Road where it intersects with Old Parham Road. The Late Noval Lindsay of Claire Hall was killed in the early morning of 28 March 2003. To all those who remember him in Antigua please dedicate 1 day to drive courteous, drive defensively, wear seat belts and please refrain from distractions while driving which include using Mobile phone/texting, obnoxiously loud music while driving. Most of all parents need to instill, teach and train their youth these good & safe driving habits so it will decrease chances they will become a statistic. In addition parents you set the standard by acting in a responsible manner this will ensure the example is passed down. In the meantime i urge the both parties and houses in parliament & our prime minister to work in accord to strengthen the road laws of Antigua and legislate stiffer penalties for violators. Lastly upon passage of new legislation i call on the Royal Antigua & Barbuda police force to enhance its capabilities and vigourously enforce the road laws of the country. Increasing citations of violators will in time decrease these often deadly senseless and mostly preventable accidents.

PLEASSSEEEE HAVE POLICE OFFICES STATIONED ON ALL SAINTS ROAD! I WAS INVOLVED IN A HIT-AND-RUN AND NOW I WILL NEVER HAVE MY CAR FIXED! WHY ARE THERE NO PATROL COPS STATIONED AT CORNERS. THIS WILL ALSO MAKE POLICEMEN FASTER WHEN AN INCIDENT IS CLOSE BY! THE MAIN OFFICE CAN RELAY THE INFO TO A POLICE OFFICER WHO IS STATIONED IN THAT VICINITY! COME ON ANTIGUA!
