The first full sculpture of Sir Vivian Isaac Alexander Richards, Antigua & Barbuda’s only living national hero, went on display at the Museum of Antigua & Barbuda on Tuesday.

The sculpture of Sir Viv was designed and made by Osmond Hector of Bendals Road.

Speaking with OBSERVER Sports, Hector said the idea was his way of giving back to Sir Viv for what he has done for Antigua & Barbuda in sports by putting us on the world stage. He noted that it took him a few years to complete, well over a thousand hours of work.

Sir Vivian Richards is the second Antiguan to play for the West Indies; the first was pace bowler Andy Roberts.

Working between five to eight hours per day, Hector said the fibreglass structure required close to 100 images of Sir Viv for completion.

Sir Viv played 121 Test matches for the West Indies scoring 8,540 runs with 24 Test centuries.
