Government’s efforts to push the country to use renewable energy are picking up steam…
And it’s leading by example, with a number of public sector projects aimed at exploring solar energy to begin very shortly.
Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer gave the update during the budget debate yesterday.
It’s part of the National Energy Policy through which private consumers can each generate up to 50 kilo-Watt –Hours which is about one megawatt.
The prime minister said the initial intention is for residents to interconnect to the national grid and generate at least 15 per cent of APUA’s feeder system.
The interconnection policy to facilitate this is in place he told Parliament and 30 people have already been trained to make the installations.
Spencer told Parliament that at least one private sector company has bought into the renewable energy initiative.
Prime Minister, Baldwin Spencer.

“consumers can each generate up to 50 kilo-Watt –Hours which is about one megawatt”
Hello? 50 kilowatt hours is not at all the same as one megawatt, although 50Kilowatts produced for 20 hours would be one Megawatt hour.
In any case, someone needs to indicate if the limit is 50 Kw Hours per hour, per day or per month or per year
Also, these should be designated as renewable energy projects and not simply Solar. Wind energy is an obvious candidate for inclusion but there are many others such as biogas generation which could qualify.
