ST JOHN’S, Antigua – A late strike by Samantha John helped Lady SAP salvage a point against defending champions Lady 5Ps when they met in the feature contest of a double-header in the Cool & Smooth sponsored Female Football League at Radio Range Playing Field on Sunday.
John struck in the 78th minute of the contest after first half strikes from Jessica Hall had given 5Ps a 2-1 advantage at the interval.
Hall netted in minute eight to give the favourites a one-nil advantage before Everdine Parker drew SAP level in the 13th minute.
Hall was back on the scorecard just eight minutes later with a second strike to put 5Ps ahead in minute 21.
But the anticipated showdown was destined for a dramatic finish as John drew from her reserve to find the late equaliser that resulted in both teams sharing points.
The draw lifts SAP to seven points from three matches after two wins and a draw as they remain at the top of the standings, while 5Ps move onto four points from two matches.
The defending champs have won and drawn their two matches to date.
Meanwhile in Sunday’s opening match, Empire Star Girls and Lady Hoppers played to a 1-1 draw.
Star Girls struck first in the game that was being dubbed a “Grays Green derby” when Dante Joseph pushed home from close range in the 10th minute.
Hoppers however drew level six minutes later when Arrianne Whyte netted from the penalty spot
Hoppers moved onto four points after two matches, while Empire are also on four points after the same number of games.
Action in the ABFA hosted competition will continue on Thursday when, in the Juniors Division, Clare Hallites take on Wings at 5 pm and Lady 5Ps tackle All Saints Lady Attackers in the Senior Division at 7 pm.
