ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Lady SAP received the 2012 ABFA Cool & Smooth senior women’s championship trophy following a 1-1 draw over Lady 5P’s in the second game of a double header at the Radio Range playing field on Friday night.
Lady SAP came into the game on 34 points – only needed a draw to win the championship. Lady 5P’s however were on 31 points and needed a win to retain their title.
Devita Edwards scored in 16th minute for Lady SAP to open the door. But the anticipated showdown was destined for a dramatic finish as Amelia Greene equalised for 5P’s when she converted a penalty in the 25th minute.
The spot kick was awarded after Kai Jacobs was brought down inside the penalty area.
The two teams created multiple scoring opportunities in the second half, but neither could find the back of the net for a second time as both goalkeepers in Anik Jarvis of Lady 5P’s and Dominique David of Lady SAP held firm.
Lady Hoppers and Empire Star Girl played to a 0-0 draw in the first encounter. The point earned by Empire Star Girls took them to 27 point and a third place finish in the competition.
