ST JOHN’S, Antigua – New Thriving Roots and Akhimo had convincing wins over their opponents on Sunday night in the Antigua & Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) Division 1 League at JSC Complex.
Playing in the first game, New Thriving Roots beat Big Banana Express, 72-63. Erril Quallis led the way for Roots as he shot 17 points and had eight steals. Terry Roberts and Naik Seth assisted with 10 points and 11 points, respectively.
George Francis shot 21 points and had 11 rebounds for the losers, while Lindsay McDonald scored 11 points and grabbed 18 boards.
In the second game, Akhimo clipped Hankook Flyers, 88-77. Keroi Lee shot a game-high 26 points, pulled 26 rebounds, and had four steals for Akhimo. Nigel Joseph had 18 points and eight assists, while Earl Lavishare shot 15 points.
Chaz Samuel produced 23 points and six steals for Hankook, while Darnel Azell shot 12 points and pulled 13 rebounds.
The competition continues nightly at JSC and Ottos Complex.
