ST JOHN’S, Antigua – Yet another young man is hospitalised with gunshot injuries sustained in an attempted robbery in the wee hours yesterday.
Twenty-six-year-old Clevan Neckles of Point was reportedly on his way home at about 3 am when a lone masked man attacked him on lower North Street.
The would-be robber demanded cash and other valuables but when Neckles said he had none, the criminal reportedly shot him in the groin.
The shooting victim provided a very general, vague description of his attacker, who he said wore dark clothing and was of medium built.
Neckles is in stable condition at Mount St John’s Medical Centre after successful surgery to remove the bullet.
The police are probing the matter and have asked anyone with information to contact the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at 462-3913/14, or call Crime Stoppers at 800-Tips (8477).
Last week Thursday, two brothers attending St Joseph’s Academy School were shot on lower St John’s Street at about 9:20 pm.
There have been no arrests for the incidents.

This young man is my brother and that is not what happen. The Antigua police need to stop fabricating the story. My brother was approached and shot. No one asked for money. This was a crime well planned. The Caribbean is a beautiful place and although I have never been to Antigua I will never visit there nor will I encourage anyone to visit. The way they treat people is ridiculous. Not because he is an outsider does not mean he should be targeted, belittled, made a prisoner in his apartment or be afraid to walk the streets. We are all one people stop the crime and violence. My dear Klivon (not Clevon) I wish you a speedy recovery and we all love you very much. God is love bro nothing goes unpaid. The lord is watching they will have to answer to him on judgement day.

My question is why does the government of Antigua allows the sale of winter face mask. Antigua is a tropical country and these items are what is being used by these mask me. These itmes should be banned from being sold in the country. Also, the government needs to put a program in place to deal with the deportees, they should keep track of these individuals by knowing their wherabouts at all time . One way of doing this is to hav them report to the police station each month and the deportees from other country holding Antiguan passports/citizenship, such priviledge should be revoked and return them to the country. The crime rate in Antigua is larger than the country itself. What is happening to our 108 sq miles Isle of the Caribbean. Mr Spencer the safety of Antigua should be more important than you boasting on your numerous honorable doctrate degrees ( An honorary doctorate is a high-level academic degree given to someone who has not completed the normal degree requirements)while people in Antigua are suffering and young people are being denied scholarships to further their education.

The citizens of Antigua need to start being vigilantes and taking matters into their own hand. Get rid of the scum bags that is destroying the island.

The Police needs to start roaming these streets…right in the heart of town? This is the same area that people are getting robbed and shot. What will it take for them to start doing their jobs…when people loose their lives? My cousin got shot in the same area a few months ago and they continue to attack people the police should know that by now.

What is antigua coming to? are the authorities doing what is necessary to stem the spiraling crimerate? i pose these questions as to see what feed back i get from the people who post articles, i can recall the minister of security saying there will be zero tolerence when it comes to gun crime, it seems to me that little has been done to stop the flow of illegal firearms into antigua. My question is: are those boats coming into antigua check ? oviously someone is bringing in those guns and something has to be done immediately.
Too many people are being shot for no reason. It is very unsettling to read the bad news concerning gun crime, the people must get involve and assist the police in finding those criminals and would be criminals.
