Regional Academic Calls For Education Revolution

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua -A leading regional academic has called for an education revolution as he diagnosed the problems facing the Caribbean’s ailing economies and tourism sector.

Principal of the Cave Hill Campus of University of the West Indies Professor Sir Hilary Beckles says the region’s failure to increase and maximise its investment in education is retarding its progress.

Beckles who is also UWI’s Pro Vice Chancellor contends that the revolution so badly needed is wrapped up in the four E’s, namely Education, Energy, Entrepreneurship, Evolution.

He referenced to Ireland which was stereotyped as an illiterate nation and which has been able to become the elevated island of Europe.
