ST JOHN’S, Antigua – For the third time in seven days, consistent rains coupled with an already aggravated playing surface at Antigua Recreation Grounds (ARG), forced the postponement of matches in the country’s imobile & OBSERVER Media Group Premier Division football competition.

Saturday’s fixtures, according to a release from Antigua & Barbuda Football Association (ABFA), were postponed following an inspection of the grounds which revealed that the centre of the field was waterlogged and still very moist.

The playing surface, which has now been turned in a north to south direction to eliminate the overly soggy eastern end of the pitch, was assessed by members of ABFA’s Competition’s Committee and members of Antigua & Barbuda Football Referees’ Association.

Cool & Smooth Empire were slated to take on Sugar Ridge Sap in the opening contest of a double-header, while Special Security Services All Saints United were to tackle neighbours Bassa in the feature match.

Further assessment of the playing surface was expected on Sunday ahead of that day’s scheduled double-header.

Saturday’s postponements are expected to further delay the conclusion of the first round in the 10-team competition.
