Pro-Russian Rebel Commander: ‘We Did Warn You — Do Not Fly in Our Sky’

Strelkov-Donetsk

KIEV, Ukraine — As news broke of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 being downed in easternUkraine, the separatist’s shadowy commander with a pencil mustache issued a dark warning on social media.

Through his VK.com account, Russia’s version of Facebook, the self-proclaimed defense minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Igor Girkin — who goes by the nom de guerre Igor Strelkov — boasted about shooting down a plane.

“We did warn you — do not fly in our sky,” he wrote.

Thinking it was a Ukrainian transport plane, Strelkov added that “a plane has just been downed somewhere around Torez, it lays there behind the ‘Progress’ mine,” referring to the mining town of some 80,000 people.

“And here is the video proving another ‘bird’ falling down,” he continued. “The bird went down behind a slagheap, not in a residential district. So no peaceful people were injured,” Strelkov wrote, adding that there is also information about a Ukrainian military plane shot down.

However, Strelkov deleted the post when he found out it was actually a commercial jetliner carrying 295 innocent people — not a military aircraft.

When Mashable called Alexander Borodai, self-declared prime minister of Donetsk People’s Republic, to ask if the group was responsible for shooting down the plane, to which he responded: “Listen, we don’t have these weapons [to down the 777].”

Then he hung up.

The pro-Russian rebels in Donetsk have been colliding with Ukrainian forces for months and have brought down several military aircrafts. However, the rebels denied their involvement with two crashes this week, saying they didn’t have the kind of equipment to carry out such an event.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian government claimed that a Russian military plane shot down a Ukrainian fighter jet. Just two days ago, Ukrainian officials suggested that a military transport plane carrying food and water for troops was shot down by an advanced rocket system fired from Russia.

Strelkov, a native Muscovite, is known for his brutality. As reported in Mashable, he led an illegal military tribunal and sentenced at least three Ukrainian citizens to death by firing squadunder a 1941 Stalin-era law.

The conflict in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk and Luhansk regions began in April.

  1. @Stephen, Who cares about the video, we have an admission of guilt even if Igor did remove it as soon as he realised he had shot down a Malaysian airliner.

Igor Girkin who goes by the nom de guerre Igor Strelkov — boasted about shooting down a plane.

Lets not forget the photos of the filmed the launcher used in the attack being smuggled to Russia – with two missiles missing.

Stephen you are either blind, stupid or being paid by the Russians to make comments like this……and TWICE lol

    • The video posted in this observer article that you say is an admission of guilt was posted by the Ukrainian government and when the creation date of 16th Jul 2014, of the video was exposed, a whole day before the Malaysian plane was shot down, they removed the video…not Girkin, the Ukrainians. However, anything uploaded to the internet stays on the internet..forever.

Who, in their right mind will incriminate themselves by posting a video admitting guilt and implicating others?

The FACT that the video was created on 16 Jul 2014 discredits the 5 second video of some BUK Missile system being transported to Russia…How do you know? Did they show you the truck crossing the border into Russia?

Then there is the flight plan filed by Malaysian Airline to fly at 35,000 feet and when they entered Ukrainian airspace, they were instructed to fly at 33,000 feet, why?

Then there is the flight path taken by the Malaysian Airline, directly over a conflict zone, when in the previous days the flight path took it over safe zones. Why did this happen? Who made that decision? …And why does a pilot say, “I feel uncomfortable…” and change the route the plane takes?

Then there is the Spanish Air traffic controller who tweeted what was happening and informed the world that the Ukrainian Government was escorting the plane with two fighter jets moments before the plane crashed to the ground. He also tweeted how the Ukrainian secret service confiscated conversations between air traffic controllers and the Malaysian flight, why? These recordings are supposed to be made public.

      • @Stephen you are spouting the same baseless nonsense which Putin is spreading in the Russian media word for word!

Now either you are one of Putin’s media manipulators or just somebody who believes Putin’s propaganda machine. Your statement comes directly from Putin’s media machine trying to deflect attention from Putin and the rebel separatists by trying to convince the outside world that Igor’s Facebook statement never existed and that Putin is not aiding the rebels with weapons and training, which you never will.

The world now see’s Putin for what he really is, an arrogant bully who is deliberately destabilizing the government of a sovereign country and is directly responsible for the current situation in the Ukraine.

        • I am not spouting baseless nonsense. I am addressing cold hard facts. These are questions not raised by Putin or the Russians, but by normal, everyday people who are wise to the evil, governments perpetrate to advance their own retarded agenda’s. The comments aren’t pro-Russian, pro-Putin, pro-separatists, and certainly not pro-Ukrainian. The dead people on MH17 deserve justice, and the facts have been recorded for history. This is where your thoughts should lie instead of pushing the anti-Putin rhetoric you’re being paid to push. Do yourself a favor and have a conscience totally unrelated to your IQ. If you’re looking to enslave this mind …”move along, these aren’t the droids we’re looking for…”

If this conflict in Ukraine was a deal breaker for the US and Russia, Putin would have recalled his 18,000+ Spetznaz troops stationed in the US by now. So, this is showmanship at best. Their agenda of increasing the distractions on the one hand while working together closely on the other is almost working, but people aren’t as stupid as they used to be, which..is a shame for people like you.

        • In light of the US’s actions internationally post WWII I find it humourous that you describe Putin and Russia (by proxy) as an arrogant bully. As for destabilizing the government of a sovereign country seems that too is an American forte.

  2. This video was put out by the coup installed Ukrainian government with a majority being Nazi supporters. The time stamp on the video creation date, is for 16 Jul 2014, the day before the crash of the Malaysian airliner. This means, who ever made the video, had prior knowledge that the Malaysian aircraft was going to be targeted. Also, the Malaysian airliner was diverted into restricted airspace over a conflict zone on that particular day. Prior days show MH17 flying over non-restricted airspace. Who gave the order? Also, it’s important to know that the Ukrainian Prosecutor general himself declared that rebel forces does not possess the BUK Missile system. This was reported by BBC. Then you have the twitter feed of the Spanish Airtraffic Controller working in Kiev who tweeted that Ukrainian fighter jets shot down MH17. The evidence point to a false-flag operation to frame Russia in light of the formation of the new BRICS world bank. youtube.c om/watch?v=RMgIpC-bCfQ

This whole mess is a result of Putin’s actions in the Ukrain. I hope the world now starts to apply serious economic sanctions to this egotistical maniac and Russia.
