August 17, 2012, St John’s Antigua – Owner of the firm Guardian Security, Peter Murphy, has reasserted his position that the number of security guards carrying guns should be kept to the barest minimum.
Murphy is Vice President of Security Alliance, the organization that represents the industry.
He makes it clear, however, that he is speaking for himself and not the alliance.
Listen:
Murphy says he feels so strongly about the matter that he doesn’t even expose his employees to the types of jobs he feels require guns.

That begs the question: how many security guards are carrying firearms on the work site and if so are they doing this legally? Who issued these guards a firearm licence and the actual firearm? The security company whom they work for? Only the Commissioner of Police can issue a firearm licence. Is the police force monitoring security guards who are carrying firearms. Another security guard shoot out could be in the making…
