Brooke "Suga B" Lewis' voice carries a range that already has some drawing comparisons between her and the likes of Dawn Penn.

St. John’s Antigua- Brooke Lewis, who goes by the stage name of Suga B, has boldly announced her arrival on the soca scene by imprinting her voice on two tracks that are being released on radio this week.

The songs are Give You a Taste and Addiction, both of which were actually penned by the talented debutante, who hails from the Golden Grove community.

Lewis’ first steps into the soca industry this year happened somewhat by chance. One of her coworkers at Bodog, where she works as a senior customer service representative, told her about a rhythm that producer Wayne Mariette had posted on his Facebook page.

“I immediately gave it a listen and the rhythm jumped into my veins,” Lewis said. “For the entire night, the beat and the music just stayed with me. I was compelled to start writing and I came up with Give You a Taste.

The other song, Addiction, has more of a cross-over feel to it and showcases Lewis’ versatility as a vocalist.

A graduate of the Christian Junior Academy and the Ottos Comprehensive School, Lewis says she is looking forward to taking part in a significant way for the first time using her God given talents in the annual Carnival celebrations.

Lewis is no stranger to the stage. She is also an actress who has represented Antigua & Barbuda at the international youth theatrical festival in Cuba, travelling with the National Youth Theatre.

“I love to write. I love acting and the theatre. So writing both songs somewhat came naturally for me,” she said. “The fact that there was such good music to work with made the job a lot easier, so I must say a special thanks to Wayne.”
