St. John’s Antigua- The 37-year-old former national footballer charged for the shooting death of Melissa Rose will remain in prison.
Errol “Errie” Barnes of Nut Grove made his first court appearance in St John’s Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Police charged him with the 19-year-old’s murder Tuesday, following months of investigations.
Clad in a blue T-shirt, ¾ cut jeans and a pair of slippers, Barnes, who is presently serving a two-year sentence for drugs, was told he could apply for bail for the capital offence in High Court after serving his time.
The teenager was allegedly gunned down in front of her John Hughes home, while sitting in a pickup, having a conversation with a male companion, on September 5 last year.
She was reportedly shot to her left breast and died on the scene.
A post-mortem concluded she died as a result of a gunshot injury to the left breast.
Committal proceedings are set for April 24.
Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin is representing Barnes.

The criminal justice system in antigua is one big laugh! these criminals should be liquidated. They are scum bags and should be done away with. I am so disgusted with them, that i would do it for the good of the antiguan people because the damn government is a joke.
