ST JOHN’S, Antigua – The Antigua Turf Club Mother’s Day Horse Race Meet will not only be about the horses, but some mothers will be in for a special treat.
President of the turf club Neil Cochrane told OBSERVER Sports that he wants to make the mothers feel special on their day and has decided to do something for them.
However, although the logistics are yet to be worked out in terms of how many mothers will be treated, Cochrane said once the weather holds and the meet is held on Sunday, May 13, some mothers can look forward to be treated.
Cochrane said the turf club is also looking at other ways to get the fans involved as a way of creating more excitement and interest during race meets.
The meet will be the second for the year at the Gardens after an absence of almost 24 months. The Easter Monday Classic broke the long lay-off.
The admission fee is $15 for adults and $10 for children.
The gates open at noon and the first of six races commences at 2 pm.
Renegade Hi-Fi will provide the music, while Bounce Castle and other rides will be available. The vendors will be out in their numbers for lots to eat and drink.
The winners of the last race meet – Tempo, Missing Files, Lucinda Tight Tight, Vybz Cartel, Jack Idle and The Chosen One – are all rearing and ready to go.
However, real challenges are expected to come from Why Worry, Don’t Tell My Wife, Fantasy Unbridled, and Timber King.
God’s Grace and Mr Big Stuff will be aiming to break their losing streaks.
