St. John’s Antigua- The planned Mothers’ Day Horse Racing meet by Antigua Turf Club has been postponed to a later date due to the recent heavy rains.

Antigua Turf Club President Neil Cochrane told OBSERVER Sports that the turf club was looking forward to the much anticipated meet on Sunday May 13.

Cochrane said the deluge has left the track very wet and it is hardly likely that it would have dried sufficiently for Sunday.

He also said that the horses cannot even get any time to work out and it is very important that they are properly exercised before races.

The turf club boss said they are looking at either May 20 or 27, but that also is dependent on the weather.

He noted that although it may be a disappointment for the mothers who were looking forward for their Mothers’ Day treat and also to the horse racing enthusiasts, the circumstances are entirely beyond the control of the club.

An official date for the race will be announced later.

More than 25 steeds were expected to run on a six-race card, ranging from four to eight furlongs.
