Dear Editor

Did I hear Lester Bird bellyaching about his brother Ivor Bird not getting an award on the occasion of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee?

And did he add that Ivor was more qualified to get the award because ZDK has been around since 1970 as opposed to Winston Derrick and OBSERVER Radio which is more recent?  And did he say that the list contained too many UPP supporters?

Well for crying out loud – to steal Lester’s phrase – wasn’t Lester Bird’s party in power from 1976 until 2004? Wasn’t Lester Bird prime minister for at least two terms during that period? Didn’t Lester Bird think then that Ivor deserved a national award?

Did Lester take into account the fact that Ivor is a convicted drug felon? If Lester carries out his threat to send an alternative list of deserving honourees to the Queen, would he be including a footnote below Ivor’s name indicating that he has such a conviction?

And before I go, was there any “balance” on the honourees’ lists when the ALP was in power?

Just asking.
