Minister MIA

Dear Editor,

I can’t help but notice that the Minister of Health Willmoth Daniel has
been noticeably absent from a number of public events that falls under his
portfolio.
The most recent was the opening of the Cancer Center Eastern Caribbean. At
a function where regional heads and are in attendance, you would have
thought the good old minister would have attended to deliver his remarks
since he was on the programme line-up.
Attendees waited only to see his Permanent Secretary Edson Joseph called
to the podium to make the presentation on the minister’s behalf.
The PS himself was trying to make light of the health minister’s absence
with a poor line that he is a one-minute man who was called to step up to
the plate. While Joseph was making his sorry excuse, a woman was in the
back of the audience shouting that he was lying — clear evidence that she
was disappointed.
As we know, the minister’s relationship with the prime minister and
government has appeared strained since he gave up the position of deputy
shortly after the last general elections.
Is the Spencer Administration falling apart? What is happening? Where is
the good minister?
